Heavy rains; floods in Assam

Incessant rainfall in catchment areas during the last week have led to a rise in the water level of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, inundating vast tracts of farmlands and villages in several districts of both Upper and Lower Assam. The water-level of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries was maintaining a steady rise and the affected districts include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Kamrup (Rural), Udalguri, Dhemaji and Dhubri, official sources said here today. The water level of the Brahmaputra was maintaining a rising trend following heavy rainfall in the Upper Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Dhemaji with several villages affected and road communication hit in some part of these districts.
