After the herbal petrol hoax, a bio-fuel is on the horizon. Oil extracted from the seed of the pongamia plant found in the Western Ghats region of Karnataka has been identified as a potential substitute for diesel. The Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore is experimenting with the oil ingenerators installed to power water supply pumps in certain hamlets of the region.
