The Australian Health Minister, Mr Rob Knowles, has ordered an investigation into allegations that three patients acquired the antibiotic-resistant germ VRE because of a breach of infection control guidelines. The investigation follows a claim that the new LaTrobe regional hospital transferred a patient infected with the bug to the Alfred Hospital without disclosing that he had VRE.
