Houses for three lakh poor families of six cities

Bhopal : Houses will be provided to about three lakh poor families living in slums of six cities of the state under Rajiv Awas Yojna. These cities are Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain and Sagar. An appeal will be made to the Union Government to bear 80 percent cost under the scheme while 10 percent each will be shared by the State Government and the beneficiary. At present there is a provision that the Union Government will bear 50 percent, the State Government 20 percent and the beneficiary 30 percent of the cost. The Centre will also be urged to consider value of land to be given by the State Government as financial contribution. This decision was taken at a meeting of state-level empowered committee chaired by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today. The meeting decided that the scheme’s benefit will be given to the beneficiaries living in slums as on November 1, 2011. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan instructed to ensure all the basic amenities like roads, power, water etc. in the slum areas where houses are to be built. Urban bodies should undertake necessary preparations in this connection. As far as possible, houses should be built where slums are located. The meeting was informed that survey under the scheme has been completed in all the cities except Ujjain, where it will be completed by December. Due to it, residents will have right over property. At present, there are 1,300 slums in these cities. Out of these, 19 slums have been identified under Pilot Project. Three lakh families will get benefit of the scheme during the next five years. Housing projects will be undertaken in consultation with slum dwellers. Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Babulal Gaur, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Shri Paras Chandra Jain, Minister of State for Home Shri Narayan Singh Kushwah, Mayors of these cities, MLAs, the Chief Secretary and officers of concerning departments were present on the occasion.
