A new Commitment to Development Index (CDI) was unveiled recently in the United States. The index for the first time focusses on the full range of policies that affect the world's poor. It goes beyond factors such as foreign aid to include trade, investment, migration, peacekeeping and environment. The CDI measures policy coherence of the rich countries in the above six areas. Countries receive a 0 to 10 score in each area and the average represents their overall CDI score.
