To meet the drinking water needs of Dehra, Khundian, Jaisinghpur and Palampur, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Thursday commissioned Himachal’s biggest rural drinking water supply augmentation scheme in the traditionally water-starved Changer areas of Kangra at Kangehan. The scheme will cost the state Rs 68.33 crore.
The drinking water from the project will be available to a population of 1.31 lakh in 564 habitations of 35 gram panchayats, besides augmenting 27 similar existing schemes in the area. It will supply 70 litres of drinking water per person a day in Jaisinghpur Sub-Division of Kangra district. The scheme has been completed in a record time of three years.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhumal claimed that timely completion of the project had saved Rs 1.40 crore to the exchequer. Ravinder Singh Ravi, Irrigation and Public Health Minister said the day will be remebered in Jaisinghpur because of the scheme.
