Shillong, March 22: Incessant rainfall has posed fresh problems for the Myntdu-Leshka hydel project in Jaintia Hills district as water entered the power house of the dam.An official of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd said today incessant rainfall since Saturday had led to the rise in the water level of the dam and also the nearby Lynriang river. As the rains receded today, the official said the workers were able to clear the water from the power house. The rainfall also forced the opening of the gates of the dam to facilitate the water at the dam to recede.This is the third time that the hydel project has been engulfed with overflowing water. Equipment inside the power house and tunnel were severely damaged due to overflow of water from the dam on October 8, 2009. In May 2010, rainfall destroyed equipment with water overflowing from the Lynriang allegedly due to encroachment of the third unit of the project into the river bed.
