A new way of imaging the brain in three dimensions could make it easier to diagnose Alzheimer's disease and other kinds of dementia, Japanese researchers said. It should make it easier for doctors to tell whether a patient with dementia has the incurable and fatal Alzheimer's disease, or another common cause of dementia, known as frontotemporal dementia. Dr. Hajime Kitagaki and colleagues at the Himeji Institute of Technology in Japan said they had found a way to take MRI images and create a three-dimensional picture in just five minutes.
