The Paharia village of Kortika in Boarijor block of Godda district in Jharkhand has earned both - pride and disdain. While block officials present this village to assert how the Government schemes have benefited these tribals, the Paharias of other villages in Boarijor complain that Kortika gives a misleading picture, concealing the dark alleys the majority of them live in. "Name any Government scheme meant for poverty alleviation and empowerment and you will find good number of beneficiaries in Kortika, which is the only Paharia village close to the block office. Such beneficiaries are hard to locate in villages up on the hills," says Mangu Mahisa, a Paharia resident of Barakota village.
