The wind energy potential in India is around 20,000 MW in 11 states and the country's power shortfall of nearly 6000 MW can be substituted by wind energy, according to the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers' Association . The wind energy industry, which made a humble beginning with just 2MW in 1989, is now generating nearly 950 MW of power, including 600 MW by Tamil Nadu .
