India moves up 13 notches in development index

India has moved 13 notches up and is now ranked 115th on the Human Development Index (HDI), according to the Human Development Report 2001 released today by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). India's HDI value improved marginally from 0.563 in 1998 to 0.571 in 1999 and it continues to remain the medium human development category along with 78 other countries including China, Brazil, Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
