India has called for a strong protocol on liability and compensation for violation of the Basel Convention on the control of trans-boundary movement of hazardous wastes and their disposal. The necessity for such a step was voiced by minister for environment and forests T R Baalu at Basel in Switzerland, while speaking at the fifth Conference of Parties (COP) to the Basel Convention.
