Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will not go ahead with its plans for a grassroots refinery in Nagapatinam, Tamil Nadu, as it will soon acquire the Centre's stake in the Chennai Petroleum Corporation (CPC and formerly called Madras Refineries), giving it a foothold in the south. The proposal was to be called the South Indian Refinery and was planned as a joint venture between IOC and CPC.
