A retired Indian civil engineer, who has found a cheap and environmentally sound solution to provide water round the year to farmers in the remotest regions of the country, has been selected for this year's 'Asian innovation award'. Sixty two year old Mr. Chewang Norphel, hailing from Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, was selected for developing an alternative to reduce the dependance of his fellow Ladakhis on the fickleness of nature for irrigation water.
