Inspite of having a separate department for the development of border areas, many a villages along the Assam-Bangladesh border of Dhubri district are reeling under the agony of underdevelopment. The condition has not changed much even after the switch to Panchayati Raj. Road communications are very poor, a good number of villages are not touched by any road so to speak. Water supply is an unknown thing to many of the village-folk while they see the blinking of electric lights at a distant village from them. In the absence of health centres, people are compelled to depend on the village physician for healing their ailments.
