The Centre has conceded Andhra Pradesh Govenment's request to amend the Insecticides Act providing for stringent punishement to those involved in manufacture and sale of spurious pesticides, the State Government's Special Representative in New Delhi, Mr. V. Sobhanadreshwar Rao, said on Tuesday. Following a spate of suicides by debt-burdened cotton farmers during last season that saw massive crop damage due to pest attack and spurious insecticides, the State Government had made a series of suggestions to modify the obsolete provisions in the 1968 Act and make it more effective.
