An international consortium has won a tender for the second $5.44m stage of renovating the concrete and steel sarcophagus covering the ruined reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The project provides for general consulting and technical services and work on a radiation protection programme and a database on the shelter, hastily constructed over the reactor that exploded in 1986 in the world's worst nuclear accident.
