International meet on water use efficiency

JAIPUR: Given the fact that Rajasthan is a water deficit state and in the wake of mounting pressure on scarce water resources, to keep up the momentum of industrial development, Rajasthan Industrial Development & Investment Corporation (RIICO) and India Water Foundation (IWF) have joined hands to organise a one-day international conference on 'Water-Use Efficiency in Industrial Sector' on Wednesday in Jaipur. "There is a dire need of effecting water use efficiency in industries and recycling the industrial waste water today," said Rajendra Bhanawat the managing director of RIICO at a press conference here. Bhanawat added that the focus areas in the conference will be to forge collaboration and synergy between industry and water sectors, analyse obstacles in fostering public-private partnership; share best practices in technology and innovations in water-use efficiency in industry and work-out policy recommendations for the state and Central governments. "The themes to be discussed at the conference will relate to industrial water policy future plans; industrial water conservation; climate change and successful water efficiencies, efforts, role and responsibility," said Dr Arvind Kumar, president of IWF. SK Sharma, former member of Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and principal advisor of IWF, stressed upon transparency in the figures of water consumption of the industries. In context to Rajasthan, he said if water is utilised well by using the best technology, then the state can have a lot of success stories which can encourage many. The conference will be attended by the Central and the state government water and industry departments, public and private sectors and major PSUs, international agencies like UNIDO, embassies and others on pan-India basis.
