Irked by low rainfall, villagers of Kakroi in Sonepat district yesterday decided to irrigate the rice crop in their parched fields by cutting the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal (SYL) and thus set in motion a water crisis in the Capital. The villagers cut the canal early yesterday. The illegal diversion of several cusecs of water did not cause any damage to life or perperty, senior officials in the Haryana Irrigation Department said, adding it however, affected in water supply to Delhi and the flow in the canal for a few hours.
