The production of water in Delhi has increased by around 40 MGD and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is expected to add 29 MGD more in next two months through Water Recycling Plants even then a huge gap between demand and supply persists.
The present water production in Water Treatment Plants of DJB is around 810 MGD but the peak demand in the summer is likely to go up to 1000 MGD. As DJB has also planned to supply potable water in unauthorized colonies in this summer, the crises may haunt the officials throughout the summer.
"The DJB has added water reservoirs and filling centres to provide adequate water supply in summer. Delhi has the highest number of underground water reservoirs in India to store water being pumped from different water treatment plants, which is then pumped through the distribution system to ensure equitable water supply. Haiderpur Recycling Water Treatment Plant has added 16 MGD of water in DJB's water pool. Three additional Water Recycling Plants at Bhagirathi, Wazirabad and Chandrawal will be commissioned in this year and will add another 29 MGD.
A Special Task Force is being set up under each Maintenance Executive Engineer to attend to urgent maintenance needs in addition enforcement Department is to over-see effective deployment of Water Tankers in water deficient areas. DJB also urges residents not to waste water and officials has been directed to be in contact with RWA to ensure adequate supply of water.
