Japan gets whiff of tobacco lawsuits

Among rich countries, Japan is smoker's paradise. More than half of males smoke, vending machines are plentiful indoors and outdoors, and no-smoking areas are a relatively new concept. But it soon is going to change. On April 30, the first trial against a foreign tobacco comapny in Japan will be held at Nagoya District Court, and Japan's domestic maker of tobacco may find itself in the dock a little later.
