Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha is pressing for the early release of at least 7 tmc ft water from Karnataka. Ms Jayalalitha also wants the Centre to expeditiously finalise the distress-sharing formula on water-sharing between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which would be applicable during the lean seasons. At the 20th meeting of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee, Tamil Nadu chief secretary Lakshmi Pranesh voiced the demands of Tamil Nadu. The immediate release of water was sought to save the standing crop in the Cauvery basin, at the CMC meeting.
