Jhum major threat to biodiversity in North-east

Study : Jhum cultivation has emerged as one of the major threats to the rich biodiversity of the north-eastern region over the years. A study conducted by the local chapter of the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) found that jhum cultivation translates forest areas into degraded wastelands wherever it is practiced.The study revealed that jhum was practised in at least 228 development blocks in the region.
