The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) set up to look into the issue of pesticides in beverages is expected to finalise its report after a meeting with officials at the Health Ministry. This meeting is expected to be crucial as a final decision will be taken after consultations with the Health Ministry. The JPC sat through a final round of presentations from cola majors Pepsi and Coke, and the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). It is expected to meet some of these parties tomorrow as well. While the beverage companies felt that there was really no need for legislation, sources said that the CSE reiterated its demand for segregating the different product categories such as juices, carbonated drinks etc to ensure tighter quality standards.
