Kaiga -II to becom critical on Sept 14

In a significant achievement before the end of this millennium, India will have its first-ever computer operated nuclear power reactor- which will supply electricity to the southern grid comprising Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Goa. "The Kaiga-II reactor in Karwar is expected to attain criticality by September 14," project director V K Sharma told the Times of India News Service. The unit was earlier scheduled to go critical last month, but it got delayed since the formalities with regard to the Atomic energy Regulatory Board (AERB) had not been completed.
