Barely three hours after Japan's worst nuclear accident at Tokaimura on September 30, anti-nuclear activists at Bangalore downloaded technical information on the disaster and possible health effects on locals. They then relayed these reports to counterparts in Sirsi who circulated translated versions to villagers living near the kaiga nuclear power plant. According to members of Citizens for Alternatives to Nuclear Energy, 17 reports downloaded from the Net helped put a perspective on safety issues concerning nuclear reactors.
