The cola wars have once again been joined with a vengeance, but this time around with a significant difference. For instead of battling each other, the cola czars have collectively taken on the Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a public service NGO which has produced a survey showing that 12 different brands of locally available beverages contain as much as 70 times more toxic matter than is permissible in their counterparts in America and Europe. While the report has created an uproar with many MPs and others demanding a ban on such products, soft drink manufacturers have pooh-poohed the CSE's reported findings. (Editorial)
