As the clock ticks towards the new millennium, the ahadow of Y2K bug looms ever larger over the Karnataka power sector. Though the state energy department has set the end of September 1999 as a deadline for the power utilities to be Y2K compliant, industry sceptics fear that it might not be met. "Most of the systems of the state power utilities will be Y2K compliant by 30 September, 1999," said Mr KVS Sunharamanyam, chief engineer, power projects, state department of energy. The rest of the compliance programme will be definitely completed by the end of October, 1999, he said.
