SHILLONG: The KHADC received a lump sum amount of Rs 1.59 crore in the last financial year from the State Government as royalty on limestone extracted from Nongtrai-Shella areas by the French company Lafarge to feed its cement plant in Bangladesh.
Replying during the question hour on the fourth day of the Council's budget session on Wednesday, KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Manstudy Nongrem said, "There is no fixed share, the Government only gives certain percentage to the three autonomous district councils of the State".
He also informed that not only the KHADC but even the JHADC and GHADC are receiving some shares as royalty on the limestone.
He, however, assured the House that the Council would meet the State Government on the issue to ask from the Government the exact amount earned as royalty from Lafarge.
Meanwhile, Executive Member (EM) in-charge Elaka Lamphrang Blah informed that the Council would seek assistance from the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) to demarcate the boundaries of Himas and Elakas in Khasi Hills.
"The GPS mapping by NESAC help in proper demarcation of the boundaries," he said.
EM in-charge Market Marbok Kharpran informed the House that the Council built two market complexes at Byrnihat and Laitlyngkot at the cost of Rs 2.3 crore and Rs 1.9 crore respectively.
