More than viruses, pesticides are threatening animals and humans. Several studies, including one conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research in 1993, have found alarmingly high levels of DDT, HCH and other extremely toxic pesticides in vegetables, fruits and milk in Delhi and other states such as Maharashtra, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. While the Acceptable Daily Intake of DDT according to WHO is 0.05 mg per kg of body weight, the sutdy found that the average daily diet of an Indian, today contains 0.27 mg of DDT.
