Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna tried to break his Bangalore-centric image by presenting the state Budget which is focussed on the rural folks. This is seen as an attempt to garner their votes in the coming Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections. The Chief Minister who also holds the Finance portfolio in his fifth consecutive Budget did not levy any fresh taxes. In order to silence his political rivals who call him "IT Krishna," and accuse him of only being interested in the development of the software sector, Mr Krishna used his Budget speech to demonstrate that he was equally concerned about the farmers.
