KOKRAJHAR: BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary while interacting with the editors of different newspapers of the State at the Kokrajhar Circuit House on Friday said the land is the subject of BTC and the council authority will take necessary steps for the resettlement of the displaced people who have valid citizenship documents while the State Government is responsible for rehabilitation. Mohilary said the discussion between the BTC and the district administration was going on for rehabilitation of displaced people in their respective places. He alleged that in the past one month the district administration worked “partially”. He said the BTC was initially not taken into confidence by the district administration for which the turmoil lingered in lower Assam. If the district administration had worked with BTC authorities, the situation could have been controlled much earlier, he said adding that instead of doing so they arrested BPF MLA Pradip Brahma and other innocent Bodo people. Mohilary said they were taken into confidence only on August 29 and since then “we are organising public meetings with Muslim and Bodo communities in different parts of lower Assam”. He said the council needed the support of district administration, local legislators, BTC EMs and MCLAs as well as democratic organisations to bring back peace and normalcy. He also said the doubtful citizens would be detected only when the scrutiny was carried out before rehabilitation. Asked what the council would do on detection of doubtful citizens, he said it was up to the Government of India but they would not be allowed in the council area.
