The birth-control pill, used in other developed nations for decades and the subject of an ongoing battle for approval in Japan, has suffered a new setback because of opposition from environmental groups. The latest obstacle is fear that the pill may cause reproductive problems in women who take it and in animals that come in contact with estrogen-tainted waste.
