A Liberal Democratic Party panel urged that natural gas be promoted as a major energy source in Japan over the next 30 to 50 years. The proposal was the main feature of an interim report compiled last week. The panel concluded that natural gas is an effective way to prevent global warming because it generates less carbon dioxide than petroleum and coal.
