For the first time in India, a pathogen believed to be rare, and so far reported only from the human body in gastroenteritis cases, has been isolated from water by a Delhi University lecturer. Yersinia sentero-colitica is a bacteria rated as an emerging pathogen by the Centre for Disease Control, Atlanta (USA) . Being rare to Indian conditions, expertise on it is yet to be developed.
