Leopards strike terror among villagers

Coimbatore, VILLAGERS near Madukkarai on the city outskirts are under the grip of fear after two leopards gained entry into a farm house here. The villagers had been complaining of a leopard that had been ransacking the plantations situated on the foothills of Madukkarai Dharmaraja Koil area for the past one week. Meanwhile, two leopards were spotted near SIDCO Phase-II industrial area. Later, the leopard jumped into a nearby farm house in the wee hours of Monday . On hearing the goats bleat, the occupants woke up and saw the leopard feasting on the goats. Fear struck the residents who bolted the doors and windows and kept indoors till dawn. On information, District Forest Officer I Anwaruddin along with Madukkarai Range Forest Officer Soundararajan visited the spot and took the footprints of the leopard. The DFO said that more forest guards will be posted in the area and an iron cage kept to trap it.
