The country's detailed poverty data, made public today, has shown up several surprises. The strife-torn state of Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as the most prosperous state with merely 3.48 per cent of the population living below the poverty line--even prosperous Punjab has over 6 per cent of its population below the poverty line.
