The City of Port Phillip (Australia) has installed street lights without bulbs to cut greenhouse gas emissions, landfill waste and to save ratepayers more than $36,000 a year. The council is among the first in the world to use the lights that use wafers, called a dio, found in silicon chips instead of bulbs with filaments to emit light.
