'Life is better but regional disparities reign'

Growth is not only about increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but also about human resource development. The measure of well-being of citizens is related to living a fulfilling life, ability to acquire a knowledge and enjoy a decent standard of living. The theme has been captured in the National Human Development Report released by the Planning Commission of India on Tuesday. The report shows that overall human development has improved significantly between 1980 and 2001. But there are wide disparities within States Urban-rural gap of development though significant, has decreased.
