Madhya Pradesh Forest Minister Gaurishankar Shejwar on Thursday assured the Assembly that Asiatic lions from Gujarat's Gir Wildlife Sanctuary would be translocated to Kuno-Palpur Wildlife Sanctuary in Sheopur district soon.
Replying to query by Satyapal Singh Sikarwar (ruling Bharatiya Janata Party) during the Question Hour, Shejwar said a technical committee constituted by the Supreme Court has found that the sanctuary does not have adequate space for the translocation.
"The apex court has directed the Government to expand the sanctuary. This requires displacing two more villages and involves an expenditure of Rs 69 crore. Since it is a national park, the budget for the purpose is supposed to be provided by the Centre," he said.
However, Shejwar said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had recently directed that Rs 30 crore could be spent from the state's budget at present. This amount would be adjusted later when funds arrive from the Centre.
Earlier, during question hour, Urban Administration and Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya informed the Assembly that the Mahakaleshwar Temple Act would be amended with the objective of developing world-famous Lord Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain.
“The temple needs expansion in view of the rise in the number of people visiting it as well as upcoming Simhastha Mela in 2016. For the purpose, arrangements of Balaji Temple in Tirupati and other temples would be studied,” Vijayvargiya said while replying to a query by Mohan Yadav of Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Act would be amended to include the local legislator and parliamentarian in the Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee. This work would be accomplished before the Simhastha Mela.
