Lithuania plans to decommission the first two reactors at the controversial Ignalina nuclear power plant by 2005, the government of the Baltic country said. This was the first time the government has set a firm deadline for the closure of the Chernobyl-type reactor and the move could bolster Lithuania's chances of being invited to accession negotiations with the European Union later this year.
