NUAPADA: Thirteen buffaloes and over 30 goats have died in Bantapur village under Khasbahal gram panchayat in Khariar block over last one week. Villagers said drying up of the two water bodies in the village besides failure of tube wells to discharge water resulted in the deaths. Reports said the village has been facing acute shortage of water coupled with intense heat and the situation is equally grim in many other gram panchayats. However, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Deepak Sarangi put the death roll at four buffaloes and about 10 goats. He said the livestock were suffering from fever and diarrhoea and attributed the deaths to water scarcity. Meanwhile, Nuapada District Collector B. P. Panda has directed construction of tanks for collection of waste water from the tube wells for use by livestock. He has also directed sinking of tube wells in water stressed villages in a fortnight.
