A local environmental group has threatened to complain to the World Bank over the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand's alleged failure to solve pollution problems at its lignite-fired Mae Moh power plant in Lampang. Jirapong Sonthitham, chairman of the Mae Moh Environment Protection Organisation, said yesterday his group would make a complaint to the World Bank because it was Egat's major creditor. He accused Egat of not making sincere efforts to solve the problem of excessive sulphur dioxide emissions at its lignite-fired plant, which has severely affected nearby communities.
