Locals gather strength to oppose power project

Opposition to the plan of setting up a 170-MW naptha-based power plant along the banks of the Gurupura river near the New Mangalore port is slowly beginning to mount with the Dakshina Kannada district committee of the Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) deciding to support the residents of Tannirbhavi in their oppisition to the proposed project.The $160-million barge-mounted power units is being promoted by a consortium of companies led by the US-based Chicago Power Company.
