Over 50 million people of Maharashtra living in villages and urban slum-dominated areas are facing unprecedented water-scarcity, and poor water-quality, according to economist and former member of the Maharashtra State Planning Board, Prof. H.M. Desarda. Lambasting the water policy of the Maharashtra Government, Prof. Desarda, who has just completed a study on water scenario in Maharashtra alleged that rampant corruption is one of the prime reasons of the water problem in the state.
