Maharashtra to encourage power from agro waste

Potential exists for production of power from biomass, especially, biomass waste treatment which has an advantage of pollution control. With the changes in government policy and available incentives, many private promoters were now coming up with new proposals. Mr. S. R. Chaudhari, manager, Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA), said. He said the State government has partially modified the existing electricity policy which noted that the Maharasthra State Electricity Board (MSEB) would purchase power generated from muncipal solid waste, sewage, biomass and agro waste at the rate of Rs 2.73 per unit.
