A new drug montelukast offers hope for young asthmatics. The drug works by blocking the production of leukotrienes which are chemicals found in white blood cells, and which stimulate the airways to narrow and secrete more mucus. This reduces the sensitivity of the air passages to foreign particles, allowing young sufferers to get more out of life. The research was conducted by scientists from U.S. and Canada.
