Malnutrition might be responsible for high infant mortality among the vanishing Great Andamanese Tribe whose population has drastically declined to 36 in recent years, according to a study.Though war and epidemics were cited as reasons for the high mortality in past, a recent study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) showed the Great Andamanese of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands were deficient in iron, vitamin-A and vitamin-B.Death due to malnutrition could be one of the foremost reasons for the decline in their population, the study published in the National Medical Journal of India said.
