A 220-MW thermal power plant for Mandya district, cleared by the Karnataka State government in favour of the Euro India Power Canara Private Limited (EIPCL), has stirred up the hornets' nest with questions being asked by some people including an MLA, as to how the company, which was originally commissioned to set up a barge-mounted project in Mangalore, was given the new project with entirely different economic dynamics without calling for fresh bids In a government order issued a few days ago, the State government provided clearance to the company to set up a thermal power plant in Mandya district instead of the origi ally sanctioned 195-MW barge-mounted naphtha-based project Mulki bear Mangalore.
