Mrs Maneka Gandhi has sought a "proper inquiry" into the cost and benefits of large dams being built on the Narmada. In an interview to a private channel, the minister of state for social justice was critical of the tendency to justify huge expenditures on the ground that some money had already been spent on a particular project.
